The Department of Internal Affairs – Community Development Group administer the Youth Worker Training Scheme, which funds training opportunities for youth workers, with the aim of increasing the quality of youth work practices.
The scheme is funded through a discretionary grant of $200,000 per year and this is divided into five regions that administer $40,000.00 each. The Lower North Island fund of $40,000 is administered by the Wellington Regional Youth Worker Trust. The Trust was established in 1997 by youth workers who live in Lower North Island area. Trustees represent 15 rohe/ areas as high as Wairoa on the East Coast to Wellington in the South, Northern Taranaki on the West Coast and inland to Wanganui and Manawatu.
Wellington Regional Youth Worker Trust supports youth workers by:
– sponsoring local & regional training workshops
– co-ordinating training workshops
– connecting networks and services across the trust region
– supporting National Code of Ethics & qualifications for youth workers.
